Exhibit-Based Activities for Teachers (Preschool – Grade 5)
For nearly 27 years, the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire has served as a vital resource to teachers and schools throughout the area. Educational exhibits and programs have transformed the traditional class field trip to an engaging learning experience for students of many ages. With the pressure on teachers to make the most of every instructional minute during the school day, the museum is dedicated to helping educators make the most of their visit to the museum, or simply enhancing the time spent with students regardless of their ability to visit the museum.
Teachers, parents, home-schoolers and caregivers are welcome to peruse, download, or adapt any of the activities we have provided in pdf form below to continue exploring exhibit subjects beyond the walls of the museum.
New! Curriculum Guide: RIVERS: Bringing New Hampshire To Life is a curriculum guide focused on the subjects of natural science and New Hampshire state history. Developed by museum educators for students in grades 3 – 5, lesson plans can be adapted for both younger and older students. The entire curriculum, including lesson plans, printable worksheets, maps, historical photographs and memoirs can be downloaded by clicking on this link: RIVERS Curriculum Guide. This guide was created with generous support from the Roger R. and Theresa S. Thompson Endowment Fund.
Exhibit-Related Activity Guides & Resources: Thanks to a generous grant from the Verizon Foundation, the museum’s education department has put together a variety of hands-on activities, experiments and a list of internet resources related to three prominent museum exhibits. Each exhibit topic contains two sets of curriculum, one designed for preschool-aged children, and another for students in the primary grades.
