Why not celebrate your child's next birthday party at The Children's Museum of Portsmouth?
The museum is available for birthday parties every evening (except Wednesday) beginning at 5:30 PM, Sunday mornings between 9 AM and 12:30 PM, and Monday afternoons beginning at 1 PM (school year only).
Birthday Blitz: $140 for Museum Members, $175 for Non-Members
- 90-minute exclusive rental of the museum
- Choice of one party favor for your guests: birthday bubbles, dinosaur finger-puppet, or museum guest pass
- Choice of one art activity led by a staff member: face painting, roto-copters, colored pasta necklaces or birthday crowns (see Description of Activities below)
Birthday Blowout: $190 for Museum Members, $225 for Non-Members
- 90-minute exclusive rental of the museum

- Party favor bags for each child --OR-- an extra half hour of party time
- A personalized birthday cake

Both the Birthday Blitz and Birthday Blowout prices cover up to 15 children including the birthday child. Adults are admitted free.
Additional Guests & Time
If you are expecting more than 15 children, there is an additional per-child fee:
$5 per child for the Birthday Blitz
$7 per child for the Birthday Blowout
(No more than 10 extra children per party, please!)
For an additional $30, you can stretch your party to two hours and pick a second art activity.
Description of Activities
- Face Painting: Choose from among several fun, festive designs. We use nontoxic face painting crayons. This activity is recommended for children age 2 to 8.
- Colored Pasta Necklaces: Make your own funky jewelry using pre-colored pasta. This activity is recommended for children age 2-8.
- Roto-Copters: Create a fun, yet simple flying machine using templates and paper clips. Then test your Roto-Copter by dropping it from the third floor loft area onto the second floor art area. This activity is appropriate for children ages 5 and up. Four year olds can participate with adult assistance.
- Birthday Crowns: Create and decorate colorful foam birthday crowns. Crowns are appropriate for children age 2 to 12.
Food
You're welcome to bring your own food or have it delivered. We have a refrigerator and freezer on site. We do ask that all eating during parties be confined to our Project Area.
Birthday Gift Registry Program
You may register your child for gifts at the Museum Shop, and the museum will provide small cards to send to your guests informing them about the registry. Our shop manager can have gifts wrapped and waiting at the party for your guests' convenience!
Booking & Refund Policy
Dates tend to fill up quickly, so book early! Parties must be scheduled and paid for at least two weeks in advance of the party date. We require a MasterCard, Visa or Discover number to hold your spot and to guarantee payment. To book a party, call the museum at (603) 436-3853.
The museum does not offer refunds for cancellations. Instead, we will give you a credit toward a future party or program. We will make all attempts to reschedule parties that are cancelled due to illness or inclement weather. If cancellation notice is not received at least two weeks in advance of your party date, your credit card will still be billed.
Private Rentals
The museum is also available for private parties and all sorts of occasions. Call the museum for current rates and more information.
